KATHINA (NEW ROBES) OFFERING CEREMONY

WAT BUDDHAMETTA / 1133 S. Swan Rd., Tucson, AZ 85711

Sunday, October 25, 2020 ( 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.)

All Members and Friends of Wat Buddhametta are invited!

Dear Members and Friends of Wat Buddhametta,

We,  Mrs. Katkeaw & Mr. Somphand Young and Family are the Chair-Persons/Sponsors of the 2020 Kathina Offering Ceremony to the monks of Wat Buddhametta. We would like to invite all Buddhists and friends of Wat Buddhametta to join us on this auspicious occasion.

The Kathina Offering is the ceremony of offering the new robes to the monastic community by the lay communities to the temples. Traditionally, if people choose to offer cloth, then the cloth is cut, sewn and dyed by the monks to make the robes. This ceremony is a 2500-year-old tradition and still carried on everywhere there are Theravada lay communities and temples. It must be done up to only one month from the  days after the end of the three-month Rains Retreat until the next full moon; between the first day of the waning moon in the eleventh lunar month and the full moon of the twelfth lunar month ( the latter part of October through mid-November). To offer dana at this time is considered highly meritorious.  Each temple/monastery can celebrate Kathina only one time a year.

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the limited space, Wat Buddhametta can receive NO more than 25 persons for this ceremony (in the Buddha Room) due to the concern of the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Since we are facing the public health crisis of Covid-19, if you plan to participate in the Kathina Ceremony we encourage you to plan ahead of time to prevent overcrowding at the temple on the Kathina Day (Oct 25).

If you choose to make an offering as part of the Kathina before the Kathina Day (Oct.18-24) Please call Wat Buddhametta’s office at 520-745-4624 to use  our “Drive Through // Stop & Drop Off Offerings // Get Blessings // Drive Out” program.

You may make donations by post mail, please make your check or money order payable to “Wat Buddhametta.” You can also do it online through our website at www.tucsonbuddhistcenter.org. Or through Our Venmo account @ Phrasarayut Arnanta. Please note “Donation for 2020 Kathina Offering”
