Volunteer

We have many volunteer opportunities to keep our temple and grounds clean, beautiful, and welcoming to all. Whatever skills and talents you have, we can probably use them! For the opportunities listed here, you can choose the day and time around scheduled events at the temple. We prefer to have volunteers who can do a task on a regular basis. Depending on your availability and preference, you can schedule this once a week, once every two weeks, or once a month. We have many who already volunteer and we would like to expand and lighten the load.

Currently, we need help with these areas:

Updating our email list in Excel. You can do this at home if you have Excel on your home computer. To help us catch up we need 3 volunteers.

Cleaning our community room, kitchen, and two restrooms. You can do one of these tasks one time or on a regular basis, 12 volunteers.

Organize our Library of books and materials. Make a card for each item with title, author, copy number and we will use these cards for checking out materials. Follow up with items kept longer than four weeks. Keep the area organized, clean, and dusted, 4 volunteers.

Office help answering the temple phone, welcoming visitors, explaining what we are about. May include some typing for Ajahn Sarayut. Volunteer 2 hours from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Pick one day from Monday – Friday. Looking for outgoing personalities who would like to learn more about the temple and represent our community, 5-10 volunteers for 2 hours every week or every other week. Interviews will be conducted for these positions.

Gardening, especially for the enclosed area. Pulling weeds, digging, planting, and assisting our volunteer Master Gardener. We are currently doing this once a week early, in the morning, due to the heat, 6 volunteers.

Watering once a week the plants and trees in the front, enclosed area, and back area. Ajahn prefers this is done on Friday early in the morning but will consider other days and times, 6 volunteers.

Install an irrigation system. Digging and laying irrigation lines for the enclosed area. Also needed are any experts on planning an irrigation system and figuring out materials required, 8 volunteers.

Community Thai Food Buffet on the third Saturday of every month. This fund-raiser helps us to offer all the classes and events free of charge to the public. We have setup at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the buffet. We need 6-8 people who can lift tables and chairs. It takes around 45 minutes. After the buffet, at about 8:30 p.m., we need help to take everything down and put away. Around 9:00 p.m. we need help vacuuming the Buddha Room, Community Room, and sweeping the kitchen, 3 volunteers.

Volunteer Coordinator to manage, schedule, and communicate to volunteers. Prefer one person who can work approximately 10 hours a week. Interviews will be conducted for this position.

If you would like to volunteer for any of these jobs or in other ways, please leave a message at the temple for Mary Watt.

Love our temple, support our temple, keep our temple vibrant and welcoming. Our temple is our community of people who come here. It exists solely to support each of you in our life’s journey.
